Hello, I am the owner of this blog. My name is Ana Maria Echeverri, I am a Systems Engineer and mother of three. After 19 years in the Corporate World working for some of the most relevant companies in the High Tech Industry, I decided to take a break to become a “Women Corporate Dropout”, and start my own business. I did return to a corporate job after that break and now I run my business in the evenings and over the weekend. I started a business commercializing Educational Toys focused on helping children discover and develop their multiple intelligences. I think some of us spend most of our life not knowing what we really love, or what we are really good at. By finding opportunities to expose kids - through play - to activities with an underlying educational value, they will be able to early on in their lives start identifying their talents and passions. I am also placing strong emphasis in building a solid portfolio of mind challenging toys for girls. Even though the role of women has changed significantly in the past 50 years, toys for girls have not changed a bit. If you look at a Sears Catalog of the 1950s offering toys for girls, you will find virtually no difference between what was offered then and what is offered now. I plan to change that. Initially as part of my offerings at www.FunIQToys.com, and later on as a store focused exclusively on girls at www.PinkIQ.com.
In the process of learning about myself, my own dreams and aspirations, and of making the decision to start my own business, I have come across amazing resources that I plan to collect on this site for everyone to use. WHY WOMEN CORPORATE DROPOUTS? Women are dropping out of the Corporate World to become entrepreneurs at highest rates than any other group in the country. Why are women so driven to entrepreneurship? Becoming a woman entrepreneur provides an amazing opportunity to:
- Better reach Work- Life balance goals
- Reach for dreams not attainable through corporate jobs
- Find flexibility to better balance personal responsibilities
- Achieve financial independence
- Leverage existing skills and experience while getting out of the rat-race
If you are dreaming of starting your own business, you will find here a wealth of resources that will help you advance your dreams. If you have doubts, you will find a community where you can share your ideas, and fears. After all, we are all striving to find that balance we want in life. The ability to work and do what we love, but in this case being in control of our own destiny; plus the ability to create our own hours so we can be a more integral part of our families. This is a free discussion forum for women wanting to become entrepreneurs, no strings attached.
